Town Planning

  • The Indus civilization was an urban civilization in which the cities were designed on the basis of the chess board pattern.
  • The roads were long, wide and cut each other a right angles.
  • Each street had wells and every house had bathrooms. Each part of the city was divided into localities, mud bins were placed on the side of the roads and a network of small, large and deep drains formed to drain dirty water. These drains made of brick, lime, alabaster etc. were covered with big bricks and stones.
